tara’s mum shops the boutique

We got Tara’s mum to tell us all her favorite things in the shop. Maybe you could take a hint and come pick out some goodies for that special day on Sunday!

Tara’s mum!

With Mother’s Day fast approaching Tara asked me to pick my favourite items from the shop. This is a difficult order because everything is so lovely but I have managed to narrow it down a bit. In no particular order here are my very special must have items.

Opelle: I love everything about these handbags, the styling, the supple leather, the size and color choices and the attention to detail. Heavenly!

Tara Davis Pearl Cluster Necklace: A delicate combo of crystal and pearl this necklace (which comes in six colours) is the kind of piece that you can wear everyday. Don’t be surprised if total strangers comment on how pretty it is and reach out to examine it more closely.

Meversible Hat: Two hats in one, flattering even on a non-hat wearer like me, these are fun, and versatile.

Marula Tree Soap Co.: Tara gave me one of their bath bombs to try and I am totally hooked. One bomb does for five or six baths, softens the water beautifully and the scents are luscious!

Mally Bibs. Two of my nieces had babies this month and these were my gift of choice. They are the perfect blend of form and function. Adorned with adorable appliqued motifs these leather bibs wash up easily and their magnet closure allows for easy on and off. And they look so cute stuck on the fridge ready for the next mealtime.

Tara and her mum outside of the Nelson store in 2010

Hello, new friends and welcome to our pretty little corner of the internet. we can’t wait to meet you, whether you are able to pop by one of our two physical spaces or not! We really hope you can drop by to say ‘hi’, look at the things, take in a workshop, make a friend, get inspired, and do some shopping. There is always something lovely going on and sweet people hanging around, so if you are in Nelson or Winnipeg please come in! You might be wondering, what is a studio boutique? Well, Tara loves making things and loves talking to people and helping them acquire said gorgeous things. So why should she be stuck in a studio all day producing and making and crafting and creating, all alone? She had the idea to create a hybrid of the traditional artist’s studio and a boutique to feature her creations - and the creations of over 50 other Canadian makers. A studio boutique brings art and the artist to you. It’s also about community - building a community right at the studio boutique through workshops and art openings, but supporting the greater community as well by supporting local organizations and with “Working Together Wednesdays”.
We’re not pretentious, we think handmade is for everyone. You don’t have to be quirky or hip or super alternative or anything to enjoy a tiny delight. Handmade is good for the environment, supports local economies, and preserves tradition - but we won’t get preachy! It is impossible to escape mass-produced things these days, but choosing the perfect little handmade things to decorate your days and brighten your existence is is definitely manageable. The truth is handmade is beautiful. The makers are truly, truly delighted by what they do and we think that comes through the item. Every piece holds a story, every element has been purposefully thought out - how can that not bring a smile to your face?
